Aquarium Lamps Recalled


The Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with Nantucket Distributing Company of Middleboro, Massachusetts has recalled the Animated Safari and Aquarium Lamps due to fire and shock hazards.  Approximately 35,000 units were sold Christmas Tree Shops stores primarily in New England, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest Regions from December 2009 through May 2011 for between $7.00 and $8.00.


This recall involves Safari and Aquarium themed lamps with UPC numbers 000015556905, 000015618955, 000015821591 and 000015821607 printed on the price label on the cardboard packaging.  The decorative lamps are silver and feature rotating films with aquatic and safari scenes.  While there are no brand markings directly on the product, "Made in China" is printed on the bottom of the lamp.


The hazard includes defective wiring in the lamps that can cause an electrical short, posing fire and shock hazards to consumers.


Christmas Tree Shops has received three reports of sparking.  No injuries or property damage has been reported.

Burlington Coat Factory Recalls Slow Cookers


The U.S. Product Safety Commission in cooperation with Burlington Coat Factory of Burlington, NJ announced a voluntary recall of the Bella Kitchen 5 qt. slow cooker.  Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless o therwise instructed.  It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

About 7,460 appliance units were sold at Burlington Coat Factory stores from June 2010 through December 2010 for approximately $20.00.  The small appliance was manufactured in China.

The manufacturer has received 60 reports of the control panels smoking, melting and sparking and three reports of panels catching fire.  Fourteen incidents have resulted in minor damage to countertops.  No injuries have been reported.

This recall involves Bella Kitchen 5-quart programmable slow cookers.  The slow cookers are black with "Bella Kitchen" printed on the control panel.  Only slow cookers with model number WJ-5000DE and date codes 0907 or 0909 are included in this recall.  The model number and four-digit date code are printed on the label on the underside of the product.

Ford Motor Recalls Vehicles Over Fuel Leaks

Ford Motor Company recalled about 35,000 pickup trucks and crossover vehicles in the United States and Canada because of possible fuel leaks and electrical shorts that could lead to fires.

Ford said the recall includes about 25,000 2010 Ranger pickups and involves fixing potential problems with the fuel line that could lead to a fuel leak and fire.

Separately, Ford is recalling more than 9,000 trucks and crossovers to fix a software problem that could lead to an electrical short and overheating, potentially causing a fire.  The recall involves 2011 model years of the Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX crossovers and the Ford F150, F250, F350, F450 and F550 trucks.

Ford said that no fires or injuries have been reported in the Ranger recall, which involves pickups built from mid-October 2009 through mid-May 2010.  The recall involving the Edge and F-Series trucks covers vehicles built from October 25, 2010 through November 20, 2010.  Both are expected to being in early March.

Tommy Bahama Recalls Mini-Tin Candle Travel Set

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with Tommy Bahama Group, Inc. of Seattle, Washington announced a voluntary recall of the Mini-Candle Travel Sets.  Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.  It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

The recall involves Tommy Bahama six tin mini-candle travel sets.  The mini-tin candles have the following scents:  pineapple paradise, pineapple cilantro, maui mango, coconut mango, hibiscus blossom and Caribbean breeze.  The six tin candles are packaged in a beige carton with a matching sleeve that reads "Tommy Bahama", "mini candle travel set" and "Set of 6 mini tins."  Various color labels are affixed to the top of the bronze-c0lored tins listing the individual candle scents.

The recalled product was sold in Tommy Bahama stores nationwide and online at http://www.tommybahama.com/ from November 2010 through January 2011 for about $40.00 and were manufactured in the United States and China.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled candles and contact Tommy Bahama for a refund.  Consumers can also return the mini-candle set to the nearest Tommy Bahama retail store.

Lennox Hearth Products Recalls Natural Gas Log Set Burner Assemblies

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with Lennox Hearth Products, LLC of Nashville, TN announced a voluntary recall of the Lennox Shadowdance Natural Gas Log Set Burner Assemblies.  Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.  It is illegal to resll a recalled consumer product.

About 3,200 units were sold by Fireplace and HVAC retailers and installers nationwide from August 2007 through December 2010 for between $700 and $850.  The units were manufactured in the United States.  A crack can develop at the gas valve connection allowing natural gas to leak while the burner is in use, posing a risk of carbon monoxide poisioning.

Lennox has received 20 reports of cracks at teh gas valve connection.  No injuries have been reported.  This recall involves gas burners sold with Lennox brand Shadowdance natural gas log set burner assemblies.  The product is used in a wood-burning fireplace or a ventless fire box enclosure. The assemblies were sold under model numbers LSVFSD-18. LSVFSD-24 and LSVFSD-30, and include a burner and ceramic-fiber log set.  Replacement gas burners were also sold separately under model number LSVFSD-NG.  Burners included in this recall have serial numbers that begin with 6407, 6408, 6409 and 6410A through 6410G.  The burner's model and serial numbers are printed on a metal identification plate attached to the burner.

Baja Motorsports Recalls Dirt Bikes

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with Baja, Inc., d/b/a Baja Motorsports of Anderson, SC has recalled the Model DR50 and DR70 Baja dirt bikes.  Consumers should stop using the recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.  It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.


Approximately 4,300 bikes were sold exclusively at Pep Boys stores nationwide between December 2010 and January 2011 for between $550 and $650.  The dirt bikes were manufactured in China and imported by Baja Motorsports.


This recall involves all model DR50 andDR70 Baja dirt bikes with VIN numbers beginning with "L98".  The model number and VIN are located on the product data plate, which is located on the side of the "goose neck" (where the handle bars meet the body of the bike.) The firm has received six reports of fires from fuel leakage including one of minor burns to a consumer's legs.
